I am very impressed with the Earth Bound Light Web Site and the professional work of Bob Jonson that I had asked him the permission to post the links on our Website to share with all of you about Photo Tips,  his experience with SLR Cameras, digital photography, working with Photoshop especially with the new version of Phoshop CS3. His knowledge in this field is second to none. If you are not a photographer, no problem, just look at the beautiful photos and enjoy his work of arts by clicking at the picture or links below.

  • So Where Does Your Monitor Profile Go? - I've spent the past two weeks discussing how color management policies work in Photoshop and what those darned warning messages are all about. A frequent question that comes up in conjunction with Photoshop's color settings is what to do with your monitor profile. The bottom line is that it doesn't go directly in Photoshop at all. To find out just where it does go, read on....(more)
  • Photoshop Color Management Warnings and What They Do - Now that we've discussed the inner workings of Photoshop's color management policies, it's time to proceed to the warning checkboxes underneath them. When opening files in Photoshop, you may have occasionally been confronted by puzzling warnings for a "profile mismatch." This warning and similar ones don't mean you have done something wrong. They can actually be quite helpful, and it is these three checkboxes in the Color Settings dialog that make them possible....(more)
  • Photoshop Color Management Policies in Detail - Photoshop's color management support is very complete, but because of this it can sometimes also seem very complicated and perhaps a bit confusing. Central to all of this are the color management policy settings and how they interact with any profiles that may be embedded in images that you open to work on....(more)
  • Working with Perspective, Subject Distance and Focal Length - Common sense is that wide angle lenses exaggerate perspective while telephoto lenses compress it. But common sense is wrong. In reality, perspective depends solely on relative subject distance. Let's look at how we can best to use this when framing and composing images....(more)
  • Wimberley Sidekick: A Solution to a Problem You May Not Even Know You Have - Shooting with even a moderately big lens on a ball head, one quickly becomes acquainted with gravity. It's as if the lens has a mind of its own. The ball head coupled with the lens's tripod collar give the setup two points of freedom, and the lens just doesn't want to remain atop the ball. If this sounds familiar to you and you're tired of wrestling your lens to go where you want it, the Wimberley Sidekick may be just what you need....(more)
  • New Gitzo Tripods for 2007 - The very first PhotoTip article I wrote here at Earthbound Light back in October of 2001 was about using a tripod. I like tripods. So I've been quite interested in the recent introduction of Gtizo's new 6X carbon fiber models....(more)
  • The Freedom to Make Mistakes - Back in the heyday of film, photographer Freeman Patterson famously said that "36 satisfactory exposures on a roll mean a photographer is not trying anything new." An analogous observation could be made of the digital shooter who doesn't end up with any shots that don't work out. In order to grow as a photographer, you have to be willing to try new things. In order to be at ease with trying new things, you have to allow yourself the freedom to make mistakes....(more)
  • Ready Or Not, Here Comes Photoshop CS3 - During this holiday time of year, while most of us have been eating turkey and unwrapping presents, Adobe has been hard at work. They recently posted a beta version of the upcoming Photoshop CS3 on their website. Now that I've had some time to play with it, here are my first impressions....(more)
  • The Skies Have It - We here in the Pacific Northwest have been having some pretty weird weather lately. Snow storms and wind storms have created their fair of havoc and then some. But all this has gotten me thinking. Interesting weather can make for interesting skies which in turn can make for interesting pictures....(more)
  • Rescuing Lost or Damaged Digital Images - Back when I was shooting film, I can remember being down at Mt. Rainier one beautiful summer morning when something unexpected happened. Finishing a roll, I rewound the film so I could put in a new roll. The camera made the usual whirring sound and when it finished, I opened the back of the camera. To my shock, the film had in fact not rewound, and it proceeded to spring out from the take-up reel all over the place. Needless to say, all the images were ruined. You might not think that digital images could suffer a similar fate but they can. Here are two indispensable tools that can save them....(more)
